Coach Tim is also a long-time Marlin. He began his swimming career with the Marlins at age 11; with this solid preparation under his belt, he then moved on to Upper Merion High School's team, where he swam at States and set the team record in backstroke, which (note to swimmers!) he still holds. Also an accomplished rower, Tim elected to stay with crew in college, where he competed successfully at the international level. After graduating from Temple University with a degree in Exercise Physiology, Tim returned to the pool and the Marlins, where he is now entering his 16th season as coach. He founded our highly successful Minnows program, to provide a pre-team experience for younger swimmers, and also administers our fall Stroke and Turn Clinic, and our Spring Clinic, which provides swim lessons and team training for the summer season. This is Tim's fifth year as Head Girls Coach.
Sergey Korobov (Head Boys Coach) umacboyscoach11@gmail.com
Sergey Korobov, a lifelong swimmer, comes to us from Michigan, where he swam for several USA swimming clubs as a “age-grouper”, and went to States 3 times with his high school team in six individual events, setting a league record in the 100 Breast. A graduate of Michigan State University in Mechanical Engineering, Sergey has five years coaching experience with USA Swimming teams in Michigan, including a stint as Head Coach at the Grand Ledge Swim Club, during which time his middle school swimmers swam to an age-group third place finish at the State level. Sergey moved to Pennsylvania last year to work at GE Energy, and is excited about getting back on deck with the Marlins.
Lori Lertora (Assistant Swim Coach)
Lori also began her swimming career with the Marlins, where she picked up her love of the sport. She taught swimming lessons in the area for many years (and counts among her former students more than a few current Marlins). We are pleased that she?s decided to return to the Marlins this year as one of our coaches. Lori loves to swim, and is happy to be a part of such a positive program for our children.
Michelle Pysher (Assistant Swim Coach)
Michelle joins the Marlin's swim team after being involved in the swimming world for almost twenty years. She started on her first US team at the age of eight and ended her career as a swimmer at Duquesne University. She still holds the record in breaststroke at Notre Dame High School and held NJ State records in both Freestyle and Medley relays in the 12 and under age group. She has been giving private lessons and coaching for many years now. Michelle is currently a Montessori teacher at a private, non-profit school in Philadelphia's art museum area. She loves spending time with children, helping them work on their technique, and her favorite events are the 200 breaststroke and the 400 I.M.
Amanda Dunlap (Assistant Swim Coach)
Amanda has been involved with swimming for 18 years. She is a 2007 graduate of Bucknell University where she majored in Mathematics and swam for the Varsity swim team. She currently works at the William Penn Charter School as a Middle School Math teacher and the Middle School head swim coach. She also coaches high school varsity softball at Penn Charter. Prior Bucknell, Amanda attended the Baldwin School and then Conestoga High School, where she swam on the Varsity swim teams for 5 years (as Captain her senior year). Amanda was a state qualifier in the 500 free in 2001 and 2002, in addition to All-District 1 honors in 2001, 2002 and 2003. Amanda was also a USA Scholastic All-American in 2002 and 2003. Growing up, Amanda swam for Suburban Swim Center and Picket Post Swim Club.
Amanda Garro (Assistant Swim Coach)
Amanda began her swimming career with the Marlins in 1995 where she swam as an 8 & under. She continued to swim with the Marlin’s for 10 more seasons. Amanda furthered her swimming career at Upper Merion High School, and served as co-captain her senior year. Upon her graduation and senior year with the Marlins, she was the recipient of the Marlins Senior Award and also the Suburban Aquatic League Senior Scholarship Award. After a brief absence from the swimming world, while attending college at the University of Tennessee, Amanda is excited to be back on deck and in the pool as part of the Marlin’s family!
Karen Culbertson (Assistant Swim Coach)
Karen grew up in Indiana, PA and began swimming competitively at age 10 for her local YMCA. She continued swimming in high school and as a freshman was a member of Indiana's 200 free relay which won their district, went on to All State and set a school record for years to come. The next year she went to districts and took 5th place in 100 free and 200 free. She went to districts and YMCA All State her junior year placing 12th in 100 free. Karen went on to pursue a career in music and holds degrees from Carnegie Mellon and Temple University where she received a full scholarship. She is a professional freelance musician and has performed all over the world. Karen has coached the minnows program and stroke and turn for the past few years, her husband Tim helps with the computer at meets and their children William and Larissa swim for the Marlins. Karen is really happy to be an assistant coach and give back to the sport she loves so much.
Jane Condi (Assistant Swim Coach)
Jane grew up locally in Wayne, and started swimming at the age of 12 for the Upper Main Line YMCA where she was ranked nationally in the 50 and 100 freestyles. She then went on to win YMCA Nationals in the 50 yard freestyle and was chosen to represent the USA for the Mid Atlantic Swim Association in Europe. Jane attended Conestoga High School, earning MVP at Districts, and set a new team record in the 50 freestyle that still stands today. Jane attended Penn State University, earning All East and All American honors as a member of the NCAA 400 Freestyle Relay, winning the Eastern Championships and setting school and pool records. Jane has been an assistant coach at Upper Main Line YMCA, Episcopal High School, EAAC and Martin's Dam. She was also as a head coach for Glenhardie Country Club. Jane lives in Wayne with her husband, Steve and two sons, Christopher and James. Jane is excited to be part of a great team and will work hard to instill the passion and teamwork that the sport of swimming has to offer!
Meredith McKee (Assistant Swim Coach)
Meridith has been involved with swimming her entire life. She began her swimming career for the Marlins when she was 9 and continued to swim for UMAC for 9 more years. In addition to the Marlins, Meri swam for Upper Merion High School and served as a captain her senior year. She attended districts and states in each of her four years on varsity in backstroke, individual medley and relay events. In her career at Upper Merion, Meri broke 5 school records in backstroke, individual medley and relay events. Several of her relay records still remain on the record board. After high school, Meridith continued to swim for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks in the South Eastern Conference for four years specializing in the 100 and 200 backstroke. Meri is thrilled to be back in her hometown teaching first grade at Caley Elementary school and as a member of the Marlins family!!
Laura Pettit (Diving Coach)
Coach Laura is the Head Diving Coach for Marple-Newtown in the summer.
Justin Bonner (Assistant Dive Coach)
Justin comes to the Marlins after several successful summers as Head Diving Coach at Ridley Township Swim Club. Justin notes that he has been involved with swimming and diving since the age of six; he was a four year varsity swimmer and diver at Ridley High School, but more accomplished as a diver. “At Ridley I was a 3 time all County selection, a 3 time District 1 selection, and a three time state qualifier (2002, 2003, 2004). I was an all State selection after capturing the bronze medal at the state meet as a senior. My six dive score still stands as the 4th highest in Delaware County history. I accepted an athletic scholarship to the University of Wisconsin where I competed for two years and briefly held the school record on the Ten Meter Platform event. Following my sphomore year I transferred to Penn State to compete for the Nittany Lions. I finished up my college diving career with 4 straight trips to the NCAA Zone Championships, just missing a chance to compete at the Nationals. I graduated from Penn State in 2009 with Bachelors degrees in Sociology and Criminal Justice. In May of 2011. I received my Master's degree in school counseling and currently work as a school counselor.”
